Ray of hope for terminally-ill patients as new norms may allow use of experimental drugs Currently, patients can use only those drugs which are approved by the drug regulator after it has passed clinical trials and found safe and efficacious, a process that takes several years. However, a new policy in the works will allow them to access pre-approval drugs in cases of serious and life-threatening diseases on compassionate grounds, without clearing clinical trials.
